JoJo Romero was named SAL Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 14th.
LAKEWOOD, NJ - JoJo Romero was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week, the second straight BlueClaws pitcher to win the award.
Last week, Nick Fanti was named SAL Pitcher of the Week after coming within one out of a no-hitter (which was completed by Trevor Bettencourt for the fifth no-hitter in BlueClaws history) last Saturday at Columbia.
Romero made one start last week, throwing eight scoreless and one-hit innings in a Wednesday win over Greenville. It was the longest outing of his professional career and he also struck out a career-high eight hitters.
Drafted in the 4th round last year out of Yavapai College (Arizona), Romero is 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA over his first six starts this season. After allowing four runs in four innings of his season debut, Romero has allowed just four earned runs over 28.2 innings pitched covering his last five starts with 31 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Romero and Fanti are the first two Pitchers of the Week for the BlueClaws this year. Last year, they had three winners: Luke Leftwich, Alberto Tirado, and Jose Taveras.
The BlueClaws are home through Tuesday and then have seven more home games starting May 22nd including two fireworks shows. For tickets, call 732-901-7000 option 2 or click here.
