LAKEWOOD, NJ - JoJo Romero struck out a career high 10 Hickory players to lead the BlueClaws to a 6-0 win over Hickory on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.
Romero (5-1) finished eight innings for the second time this year and lowered his ERA to 2.01, third best in the league.
The win for Lakewood (38-30) was their fourth in a row but they remain one game behind first place Kannapolis with two games remaining in the first half. The BlueClaws need two wins and two losses by Kannapolis against West Virginia over the weekend.
Lakewood jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the third inning. The first scored on an RBI single by Mickey Moniak, his seventh hit in the last three games. Darick Hall then grounded into a double-play that allowed Daniel Brito to score.
The BlueClaws added three more runs in the sixth inning, with Enmanuel Garcia's RBI single putting Lakewood up 4-0. Raul Rivas followed with a two-run single for a 6-0 BlueClaws lead.
Seven starters had a hit for the BlueClaws and Enmanuel Garcia had three, scoring twice and driving in two in the win.
The BlueClaws and Crawdads continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05 pm. RHP Sixto Sanchez (2-2) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Kyle Cody (2-6).
