The Kernels Summer Reading Program is designed to help encourage students in Pre-K – 6th grade to stay engaged in their education outside the classroom. Reading program scorecards are where students can find directions on how to participate and track their minutes. Just like baseball, students must make their way around the bases to hit a home run in the Kernels Summer Reading Program. To keep everybody motivated to read, we have prizes at each base (benchmark) along the way:
How the program works:
Earn free prizes every 250 minutes of reading!
Track progress on a baseball themed scorecard where participants accumulate minutes read to score "bases" for prizes.
1st Base Prize (250 Min) | 1 FREE Club Section 2026 Kernels ticket voucher
2nd Base Prize 500 minutes read (500 Min) | 1 FREE wristband for Kernels Kidzone unlimited inflatables for a Kernels 2026 game + 1 FREE "All Day Adventure Ticket" to The Fun Station Cedar Rapids!
3rd Base Prize (750 Min) | 1 FREE Kids Meal with Fresh Frozen Custard at local Culver's restaurants AND 1 Free 60 minute General Admission pass to AirFX Trampoline Park.
Home Run Prize (1,000 Min) | Invitation to Reader Recognition Day on Sunday August 30th, with discounted family tickets + a popper prize presented by Alliant Energy
Reading Program prizes will be available at the Kernels Team Store at Veterans Memorial Stadium starting April 20th.
Bring Scorecards with completed bases into the Kernels Team Store to claim prizes.
