Clinton pitchers shut down Kernels, 5-0

Clinton, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels were held to four hits as the Clinton LumberKings shut them out by the score of 5-0. Clinton starter Taylor Lewis allowed one hut and struck out two over 5 IP for the win and Brandon Josselyn earned his fourth save.

Kernels starter Garrett Richards allowed three runs on five hits, walked two and struck out five over six innings in taking the loss. Mike Trout went 2-4 as Jean Segura and Kevin Bass each added a single. Casey Haerther saw his 13 game hitting streak snapped as he went 0-4 and Matt Long was 0-1 and drew three walks.

Clinton drew first blood with a lead off home run by Nick Franklin. Welington Dotel went 2-3 with a triple and 2 RBI and Vinnie Catricala was 1-4 with a double and RBI.

The Kernels had a chance to score in the top of the ninth as they loaded the bases off Clinton relievers John Housey and Jose Jimenez. Josselyn came on with two out and got Haerther to fly out to right field to end the game.
