Mike Trout wins MWL batting title
Trout played in 81 games for the Kernels before being promoted to Rancho Cucamonga on July 14, posting a .362 BA in 368 plate appearances. To qualify for a league batting title, a player must have 2.7 plate appearances per team game and Trout was 10 appearances short. Under Rule 10.22(a), a player may have additional plate appearances added to qualify for a batting title and Trout's adjusted average is .351, ahead of runner up Brian Cavazos-Galvez of Great Lakes (.318 BA).
The same was applied to on-base percentage as Trout left with a .454 OBP, which was adjusted to .441, but still ahead of runner-up Jason Hagerty of Fort Wayne (.423 OBP).
Trout and the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes play the Lake Elsinore Storm in the second round of the California League Playoffs on Saturday at 9:05 pm. Former Kernel Garrett Richards is the scheduled starter for the Quakes.
The Kernels open the 2011 MWL season on the road at Peoria on Thursday, April 3 and host Wisconsin on Monday, April 11. The Kernels will release the entire 2011 MWL schedule in October and start taking reservations for Group Outings and Season Tickets at that time. Visit www.kernels.com for more information.
