Pearson's Career Game Highlights 14-1 Blowout

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored 10 runs in the fourth inning Sunday and claimed a 14-1 victory to secure a four-game sweep over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in front of 2,785 fans at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Jacob Pearson led the offense with a personal-high four hits, three runs scored, and three runs batted in while finishing a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
The Kernels' 10-run fourth inning marked its biggest outburst since plating 11 runs in the fourth inning of a 23-3 win August 24, 2015 against the Peoria Chiefs. Jose Miranda started the rally with an RBI single, and Robby Rinn followed by hitting an RBI double. Two batters later, Andrew Bechtold hit a two-run homer. Pearson added a two-run single later in the frame. Miranda cleared the bases on a three-run double before Rinn's RBI single capped the scoring and put Cedar Rapids' lead at 10-0.

Wisconsin (0-4, 31-42) scored its only run during the top of the sixth. Payton Henry and Jay Feliciano both drew walks, and Tristen Lutz drove in Henry with a two-out RBI double that trimmed the deficit to 10-1.
Pearson sparked a quick rally in the home half of the sixth that pushed Cedar Rapids (4-0, 36-37) to a 12-1 advantage. Sitting at 3-of-3 with two singles and a triple through five innings, Pearson launched a solo home run to begin the frame. Jean Carlos Arias tripled and scored on a groundout from Miranda.
Jordan Gore extended the Kernels' lead to 14-1 within the seventh. He lifted a two-run blast to wrap up the scoring in Cedar Rapids' largest win of the year. Pearson batted near the end of the inning with a chance to complete the cycle, but he popped out in his final plate appearance.
Brusdar Graterol (3-2) opened Sunday's series finale with a shutout start to earn the win. Graterol notched a near-career-high nine strikeouts over five innings while allowing just two hits and three walks. He also reached triple digits on five fastballs Sunday including one pitch at 101 mph during the first frame.
Carlos Herrera (1-5) took the loss for Wisconsin after giving up five runs over 3.2 innings pitched. Herrera also recorded a team-best five strikeouts.
This seven-game homestand continues with a three-game series against the Beloit Snappers. Monday's series opener is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with Kernels left-hander Bryan Sammons (3-4, 3.05) to pitch against Snappers right-hander Wyatt Marks (3-5, 4.15).
