Six-Run First Sets Tone in Charleston’s 11-2 Victory Over Augusta

North Augusta, SC – Behind a quick start, the Charleston RiverDogs powered past the Augusta GreenJackets 11-2 on Wednesday night at SRP Park.

The RiverDogs wasted no time in the first inning when Andremi Antunez powered an RBI double off the wall in right. Two hitters later, Tom Poole lined an RBI single to left to double the lead to 2-0.

After RBI singles from Andres Torres and Alberth Palma extended the lead to four, the RiverDogs added on two more runs on two pitches to the backstop, extending the lead to six.

The six-run first matched a season-high for runs scored in an opening inning (July 4 at Delmarva).

Charleston struck for two more in the third on an RBI single from Torres and RBI groundout by Alberth Palma.

Augusta supplied a run in the bottom of the fourth before the bullpens settled in. After both traded scoreless innings through the seventh, Brody Donay blasted a solo shot to center to push the advantage to 9-1. He has launched three homers in his last five games.

Augusta tacked on another in the bottom of the eighth before Charleston rallied for two more in the top of ninth when Cooper Flemming lined an RBI double to left, and Taitn Gray followed with an RBI single to cap scoring at 11-2.

Luke Jackson set the tone on the bump, delivering two scoreless frames. Aidan Cremarosa followed with two innings of one-run ball in his return from the injured list. In the process he fanned four hitters.

With the win, the RiverDogs moved to 62-47 and 25-18 in the second half, while Augusta fell to 57-51, and 22-20 in the second half. The two return to the ballpark tomorrow for the game two of the series. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:20 on the RiverDogs Broadcast Network.

After clinching the Carolina League South first half title, the RiverDogs have secured a spot in the 2026 postseason, presented by Nucor Steel Berkeley. The best-of-three Division Series begins on Tuesday, September 8. Thanks to their first-half division title, the RiverDogs are guaranteed to host Game 2, and, if necessary, Game 3, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on September 10 and 11.
