(OAKLAND, CA) -- Lucas Giolito was perfect through six innings and the offense slugged three home runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to an impressive 4-1 win over the Oakland A's in game one of the 2020 American League Wild Card Series on Tuesday from the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, CA.

Making his first career postseason appearance, Giolito cruised through his first six innings without allowing a baserunner. The 26-year-old right-hander retired the first 18 batters he faced to become only the fifth pitcher in playoff history to accomplish that feat (Don Larsen (1956): Perfect game, Herb Pennock (1927): 7.1 IP, Jim Lonborg (1967): 6.1 IP, and Mike Mussina (2004): 6.1 IP were the others).

In the seventh, Giolito's perfect game was broken up by Tommy La Stella, who singled to lead off the inning. Still, Giolito battled in the inning and escaped the seventh without allowing a run.

One inning later, the California native was back on the mound for the White Sox, who were leading the game 4-0 at that point. After allowing a walk to Mark Canha on four pitches and a single to Jake Lamb in the eighth, Giolito was replaced by Evan Marshall. Although Canha later scored Oakland's lone run of the game in the eighth when Ramón Laureano grounded into a forceout, the Sox bullpen held the A's scoreless the rest of the way.

Offensively, Adam Engel, José Abreu and Yasmani Grandal all homered for the White Sox. Engel put the White Sox on the 'board with a solo home run in the first inning becoming the first player in team history to homer in his first postseason at-bat. Abreu launched a two-run shot in the third inning, while Grandal hit a solo home run in the eighth.

The White Sox will go for the series win on Wednesday as RHP Dallas Keuchel gets the ball in game two.
