Curve to Say Cheers for 21st Anniversary of "Cheers" Finale on May 20

Team will celebrate the 21st anniversary of the show's final episode in 1993
May 7, 2014

CURVE, Pa. - Because it's too predictable to celebrate round-numbers and a 21st anniversary seems to be the perfect occasion to "legally" celebrate everybody's favorite bar-based television show, the Altoona Curve will host "Cheers Night" on Tuesday, May 20 when they play the Akron RubberDucks in a 6:30 game. The final episode of "Cheers" aired on May 20, 1993.

To pay tribute to the show which earned a total of 28 Emmy awards, the Curve will offer a free Grandstand ticket to fans attending the game that meet any of the following criteria:

-Anyone with a legal first name of Woody, Cliff or Norm
-Any couples whose first names are Sam and Diane
-Any coach of any team in the area (with proof of a lineup card or roster to verify they are indeed the coach) as a salute to "Coach" Ernie Pantuso
-Anyone in Boston Red Sox or Boston Bruins gear a la Sam "May Day" Malone or Eddie LeBec
-Accountants or psychiatrists (with business card to prove they are indeed an accountant or psychiatrist)
-Anyone from Woody's hometown of Hanover, Ind. or its namesake, Hanover, PA.
-And last, but certainly not least, any postal worker who shows up in full uniform can also get a free Grandstand ticket plus throw out a ceremonial first pitch

Peoples Natural Gas Field is already a place where most everybody knows your name but that will become even truer on May 20th. All fans will be greeted as "Nooorrrrrm" when they enter the ballpark just as Norm Peterson was as he walked in the bar. The Curve will also place two barstools reserved for Norm and Cliff at one of our portable beer stands during the game.

Selected fans at the game will also have the pleasure to participate in a between-inning Snipe Hunt during the game with the RubberDucks. That hunt not only be limited to finding the hidden snipes around the ballpark but will also include a search for the elusive keys to the batter's box, the box of curveballs and the left-handed fungo bats.

Fans that are 21 years of age or older can enjoy $5 Harpoon Summer Ale 24-ounce drafts for the Tuesday night game with Akron. That will go nicely with the Hungry Heifer Burger that will be sold for Tuesday night only. What is the Hungry Heifer Burger? It's a Curve Burger, times two. So a total of one pound of meat. The "Hungry Heifer" will be available at the US Foods BBQ Pit along the first base side of PNG Field.

Tickets for the game, which will also include some of Cliff Claven's Useless Trivia, a Best Beard Contest, and a Ballpark Sing-a-Long to Queen's "We Will Rock You", are available by calling 877.99.CURVE, visiting AltoonaCurve.com or by stopping by the ticket windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
