Offense bounces back as Curve take series

CURVE, Pa. - A night after they were held scoreless, the Altoona Curve's offense woke up and beat the Erie SeaWolves, 10-5, on Thursday night at Peoples Natural Gas field.

The Curve (57-52) notched 15 hits and finished the season series Erie (55-55) against Erie with a 13-8 record.
Wyatt Mathisen went 5-for-5 on the night, tying the team record for hits in a single game. It marked the 16^th five-hit game for a Curve player in franchise history.
The Curve pulled in front with five runs in the first inning. Down 1-0, Cole Tucker and Pablo Reyes hit back-to-back singles to get things started. Later in the inning, with two outs, Jin-De Jhang crushed an opposite-field, three-run homer, his second of the season, to put Altoona ahead, 3-2.
Mathisen kept the inning alive with a single, and came around to score after Erie shortstop A.J. Simcox threw the ball away on a grounder off the bat of Jordan George . Justin Maffei closed the inning with an RBI single to score Mathisen and give the Curve a 5-1 advantage.
After Erie got a run back in the second, Altoona scored three more runs in the bottom of the frame. Tucker singled and Anderson Feliz walked, setting up Jhang, who continued his strong night by hitting a two-run triple. Mathisen followed with another RBI single and the Curve led 8-2 after two innings.
The SeaWolves cut the deficit to 8-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, but the Curve kept adding on to their lead.
Reyes hit an RBI single to score Elvis Escobar in the third, and Mathisen singled home Feliz in the fourth to push Altoona's lead to 10-4.
Jhang finished with a season-high five RBI, which is the most by a Curve player this season.
The win was Altoona's 21^st come-from-behind victory this season.
Curve starter J.T. Brubaker (Win, 6-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits in five innings, striking out four. Cody Dickson pitched two scoreless innings in relief and Jake Brentz pitched a scoreless eighth inning. Yeudy Garcia allowed a run on two hits and walked two in the ninth.
Erie starter A.J. Ladwig (7-4) allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits in 1.2 innings. Victor Alcántara surrendered the other two Curve runs in 3.1 innings.
The Curve will hit the road for a short three-game series beginning with the Trenton Thunder on Friday. Right-hander Austin Coley (4-2, 2.88) will start for Altoona, while Trenton will counter with right-hander Will Carter (1-0, 2.75). First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at ARM & HAMMER Park in Trenton.
