Dayton, Ohio—The Dayton Dragons battled back from a 3-0 deficit, scoring five runs in the seventh inning, on the way to a 6-3 victory over the Great Lakes Loons on Saturday night. The win was the third straight for the Dragons and their fifth victory in their last six games.

The largest crowd of the season, 9,074, was in attendance at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.

Ruben Ibarra hit a solo home run and Carlos Jorge delivered a two-run single that gave the Dragons the lead.

Game Recap:

Great Lakes jumped ahead with three runs in the fourth inning, keyed by a two-run home run by Midwest League home run leader Chris Newell, as the Loons took a 3-0 lead. Dragons pitchers went on to shutout the Loons over the final five innings of the game.

In the fifth, Dayton’s Ruben Ibarra hit a solo home run to left field to get the Dragons scoring started. The home run was Ibarra’s second of the season (both in the current series with the Loons).

The Dragons still trailed 3-0 as they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh and had been limited to just two hits in the game to that point (both by Ibarra). Cade Hunter lined a single to left field to start the inning and Ibarra drew a four-pitch walk. Victor Acosta then reached on a bunt single to load the bases with no outs. After Leo Balcazar struck out, Logan Tanner worked a walk on a 3-2 pitch to force in a run and make it 3-2. Jorge then lined a single through the middle to drive in both Ibarra and Acosta to give the Dragons a 4-3 lead. The Dragons added two more runs in the inning, taking advantage of a Great Lakes error and a balk to make it 6-3.

Dragons relievers Andrew Moore and Luis Mey combined to finish the game. Moore (1-0) had a strong outing, retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced over three scoreless innings to earn the win. Mey pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his fourth save, notching three strikeouts.

Dragons starting pitcher Kevin Abel worked the first five innings, allowing three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. All three runs and three of the five hits against Abel came in the fourth inning.

The Dragons finished the night with five hits. Ibarra was 2 for 2 with a home run, two walks, and two runs scored, reaching base in all four plate appearances.
