Lansing, Mich.—Jay Allen II, Logan Tanner, and Hector Rodriguez blasted home runs while pitchers Ryan Cardona and Bryce Hubbart combined on a strong performance as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 6-3 on Tuesday night. The game was the first game of a six-game series as the Dragons snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Dragons led the entire game as they scored in the top of the first inning and never trailed. Allen led off the game with a single, went to second on a ground out, stole third, and scored on an error to make it 1-0. Allen belted a solo home run in the third inning, his third homer of the year, and the Dragons added another unearned run in the fourth to go ahead 3-0.

Meanwhile, Cardona (2-0) worked five innings, allowing just one run on only two hits with four walks and four strikeouts to earn the win.

Lansing pulled to within a run, scoring one in the fifth and one in the sixth to make it 3-2, but the Dragons responded with a home run by Tanner in the seventh to go ahead 4-2. Later in the same inning, Rodriguez reached on an infield single and scored on Sal Stewart’s triple to make it 5-2. Rodriguez added a solo home run in the top of the ninth to extend the Dayton lead to 6-2.

Hubbart allowed the first three batters in the bottom of the ninth to reach base as Lansing scored one run and brought the tying run to the plate with no one out. But Hubbart struck out the next three batters to end the game and earn his second save. Hubbart struck out eight in four innings of relief, allowing two runs on five hits.

The Dragons finished with nine hits. Allen, Rodriguez, and Stewart each had two.
