Dayton, Ohio — The Dayton Dragons will recognize the Miami Valley Veterans Museum as a “Hometown Hero” honoree during a special inning break of the Dragons game on Tuesday, May 17 against the Quad Cities River Bandits at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District. The game will start at 7:05 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons shine the spotlight on the military, past and present, through the Hometown Heroes program. This program hosts military families at every Dragons game, recognizing outstanding military organizations and individuals.

The Miami Valley Veterans Museum is a non-profit museum with a mission to hold onto the legacy of our local veterans. Founded in 2009, it provides a repository for uniforms, military equipment, personal effects, and other artifacts representing all six branches of the U.S. military from 1745 to the present day. Supporting a multi-county community, it also provides a meeting place for veterans. The museum holds programs such as monthly veteran coffee gatherings, educational outreach programs, special events, and other online programs.

The museum recently started its “Valley Veterans” public address program. This is a TV program that focuses on themes of interest to local veterans and includes interviews of veterans sharing their story. The Miami Valley Veterans Museum is currently filming its newest “Valley Veterans” program and looks forward to sharing the heroic stories of the veterans right in our backyard.

In efforts to renovate and expand its offerings, the museum has started a capital campaign to raise money to go toward upgrading current exhibits and to create new exhibits at the museum. One such improvement includes incorporating a recording studio where veterans can share stories of their service.

As an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 organization, the Miami Valley Veterans Museum is always looking for new members, volunteers, and donations. For more information on how you can support their mission, visit miamivalleyveteransmuseum.org and like them on Facebook at @miamivalleyveteransmuseum.

The Dayton Dragons Hometown Heroes program is made possible by the generous support of the Dayton Development Coalition, Reynolds & Reynolds, and the Dayton Dragons. For more information, please visit daytondragons.com/hometownheroes.
