Dayton, Ohio—Fort Wayne pitchers Jairo Iriarte, Alan Mundo, and Adam Smith combined for the third no-hitter in TinCaps history as Fort Wayne defeated the Dayton Dragons 6-0 on Tuesday night. A crowd of 7,589 was in attendance at Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District.

Fort Wayne pitchers allowed four base runners in the game, allowing two walks and two hit batsmen. The Dragons hit several balls hard, lining out to center field three times and lining out to first base once. The best defensive play of the night came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Dayton’s Edwin Arroyo hit a hard liner toward center field. Fort Wayne’s Jakob Marsee came racing in and made a diving catch to save the no-hitter.

Iriarte, the starter, went six innings and struck out eight Dayton batters. He allowed one walk and hit one batter.

The Dragons were no-hit for the first time since July 10, 2014, when South Bend’s Blayne Weller went the full nine innings without allowing a base hit.

Dragons starting pitcher Hunter Parks (2-2) was charged with the loss in his first subpar performance after four straight exceptional starts. Parks worked three innings, allowing four runs on three hits with four walks and one strikeout.

Vin Timpanelli replaced Parks to start the fourth and tossed two innings, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Jayvien Sandridge gave the Dragons two very effective innings, allowing no hits and no runs with one walk and four strikeouts. Myles Gayman was the fourth Dayton pitcher, working two perfect innings and striking out three. Fort Wayne did not have a hit after the fourth inning.

The Dragons remained six games out of first place in the Midwest League’s East Division, trailing Great Lakes and West Michigan, who are tied for first place.
