Express to Host Memorial Service for Michael Point Monday

Public Invited to Celebrate the Life of the Music and Baseball Fan at Dell Diamond
October 8, 2013

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express will host a memorial ceremony to celebrate and remember the life of Michael Point on Monday, October 14 at 1:30 p.m. in the United Heritage Center at Dell Diamond. The ceremony is open to the public.

Point, a Houston native, was diagnosed with liver cancer three weeks ago. He lost his battle early Monday morning at a hospice in Houston at the age of 63. Point covered the Express for the club's first three seasons for the Austin-American Statesman and wrote the book "A Season of Celebration," recapping the team's storybook inaugural season. He was also a contributor on jazz and blues stories for the Statesman in the 1980s and 90s. His work appeared in several national publications, including Baseball America and DownBeat Magazine.

Allen Frans, family pastor at Central Baptist Church in Round Rock and Express team Chaplin, will officiate the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the Express is asking donations be made in Point's name to the American Cancer Society.
