May 24, 2015

MYRTLE BEACH , SC-Potomac's (19-24-Overall, 9-14-Road) RHP Nick Pivetta hurled six scoreless innings and the offense pushed across one run to defeat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (26-15-Overall, 10-10-Home) 1-0 at TicketReturn.com Field on Sunday night.

Pivetta (3-3, 1.41) making his eighth start of the season, pitched six scoreless innings against the Pelicans for his third win of the season. The Canadian born righty danced out of a two runners on and two out jam in the fourth, but that was all the trouble he faced throwing 95 pitches with 60 for strikes.

The starter for the Pelicans, RHP Tyler Skulina (1-5, 4.25) pitched well, hurling six innings and giving up six hits and one run, he walked two and struck out six, taking the tough luck loss.

After only picking up one hit through two frames, the P-Nats offense got a triple from 3B Narciso Mesa with one out. 2B Christopher Bostick, who has been hot in the series, came up and sent a fly ball to deep left field. Coming home to score was Mesa and the P-Nats had a 1-0 lead.

The score remained 1-0 into the seventh when RHP Derek Self came in and threw a scoreless 1.2 innings, allowing two hits.

For Pivetta in his six innings, he allowed three hits and no runs, issuing no walks and striking out four in the win.

Myrtle Beach in the eighth picked up a two-out single from RF Chesny Young and Potomac's manager Tripp Keister went to the bullpen. LHP Nick Lee was summoned, looking for his fourth save of the season, he walked the first man he faced but then induced a ground ball to end the threat.

Lee emerged for the ninth after Potomac failed to add an insurance run and promptly retired the Pelicans in order to seal the 1-0 victory.

For Lee it was his fourth save of the season in four opportunities and for Pivetta, it was his second consecutive win.

Potomac is now 8-9 in one-run affairs and Bostick, in his homecoming, is 5-for-12 with three RBIs.

Tomorrow night, in the series finale Potomac, sends RHP Lucas Giolito (1-2, 4.67) up against RHP Jen-Ho Tseng (1-2, 5.26). Potomac looks to earn the series split.
