Cole keeps hitting but Riders drop opener in Springfield

Luis La O delivers pair of hits and RBIs in Riders debut

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (April 15, 2018) - Outfielder Hunter Cole continued his recent surge at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance Sunday afternoon but the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell 14-3 to the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field.



  • Cole opened the scoring for the Riders with an RBI single in the top of the first, helping the Riders take an early 2-0 lead.
  • Springfield countered with five runs in the first inning to seize command of the game.
  • The Cardinals scored in five of their eight innings, capping the big day with a four-run eighth.
  • In his Riders debut, Luis La O went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He joined the Riders Saturday from Advanced-A Down East.

  • Cole has three consecutive multi-hit performances and has collected multiple hits in six of his nine games this season. He also extended his hitting streak to six games with his two hits Sunday afternoon.
  • In addition to his hitting abilities, Cole also delivered his second outfield assist of the season, cutting down a runner at the plate in the fourth inning.
  • Sunday's first-pitch temperature was 33 degrees, marking the Riders coldest game of the season.
