Greenville jump-started the action in the second, taking advantage of three consecutive walks and scoring on a forced out, 1-0.
A few quiet innings ended abruptly with a seven-run sixth for the Drive, blowing it open 8-0. A wild pitch drove in Yoeilin Cespedes to ignite the fire, passing it to Maximus Martin, who singled in another. A sac fly for Stanley Tucker followed by a three-run homer by Hudson White and a solo home run by Isaiah Jackson capped the top of the inning.
Drive starter Devin Futrell got the ball in game four, holding the Tourists scoreless through six before handing it over to Trennor O’Donnell. O’Donnell gave up Asheville’s first run of the night on an RBI single for John Garcia in the seventh, 8-1.
A two-run longball for Ethan Frey provided more run support in the next inning, 8-3. An RBI base hit for Xavier Neyens in the ninth got the Tourists halfway, but they fell 8-4 to Greenville.
Eight hits for the Drive matches their final score, totaling 43 runs in their last four games. White had the biggest swing of the night with his three-run homer. Martin went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. He now has five hits in his last three games after going hitless in his first five since his return 14 days ago.
The Tourists collected 12 hits tonight, ending 3-for-12 with runners on and stranding 11 on base. Frey went 3-for-4 with his homer, two RBIs, and a run. Neyens had a 2-for-3 showing, walking twice with an RBI and a run to go with it.
Futrell’s dominant evening earned him his fifth win of the season, giving up no runs after six innings. Seven of his eight Ks were swinging strikeouts. Asheville starter Andrew Taylor was charged with game four’s loss. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out three.
