Drive Back in Win Column Following 4-2 Win Thursday

Jacob Mayers and Brady Tygart anchored the way to a 4-2 win over the Hudson Valley Renegades in game three. The Drive improves to 47-55, while the Renegades falls to 48-55. In the second-half standings, Greenville is now 21-18, while Hudson Valley is 18-21.

Mayers got his second start since joining the Drive, giving up one run in the first but quickly regrouping to strike out the side.

Ronny Hernandez tied the game in the second, driving in Carlos Gutierrez after he doubled in his first at-bat with the Drive. A balk in the third broke the tie in favor of the Renegades, but good situational hitting by Jake Schaffner and Owen Hull, with an RBI single and a sac-fly, respectively, gave the Drive a 3-2 lead.

Tygart took over for Mayers, who pitched four innings, allowing two runs and striking out four, to make his first appearance after his rehab assignment in Salem. Tygart settled in well, holding down the Hudson Valley offense with three strikeouts and just one hit through his first three innings.

Gerardo Rodriguez gave Greenville some insurance after three quiet innings with an RBI base hit in the seventh, driving in Owen Hull, who had tripled before him, to make it 4-2.

Tygart continued his strong outing, closing out the eighth and ninth innings to secure a 4-2 win for the Drive. He’d earn tonight’s win, pitching five innings of one-run baseball with just one hit allowed. The Renegades' starter Bryce Cunningham was charged with his eighth loss in game three, giving up three runs on six hits.

The Drive’s offense recorded 10 hits tonight, with each run batted in by a different hitter. Hernandez went 2-for-4 with one of those RBIs, the only one with more than one hit. As for the Renegades, they were held down to five hits, going 1-for-6 with runners on second and third. Jackson Lovich had the solo RBI for his team, finishing 2-for-4 on the night.

The Greenville Drive goes head-to-head in game four versus the Hudson Valley Renegades tomorrow night with first pitch at 6:45 PM. It's Funeral for the Penny and Back to School Bash at Fluor Field. Fans can stay at the conclusion of the game for Friday Night Fireworks, presented by GE Vernova.
