Cody Kukuk Takes the Mound on Opening Day

The Greenville Drive season begins tonight in Kannapolis against the Intimidators at 7:05, and left-handed pitcher Cody Kukuk has drawn the Opening Day assignment.

Kukuk spent the entire 2013 season in Greenville, posting a 4-13 record with a 4.63 ERA in 26 appearances, including 24 starts. He showed his dominant stuff by striking out 113 batters in 107 innings while only allowing 77 hits, good for a .197 opponent batting average.

A native of Kansas, Kukuk joined the Red Sox organization in 2011 after being selected in the 7th round of the 2011 Draft out of high school. He made his debut on the mound in 2012 with the Gulf Coast League Red Sox and went 2-0 with an 0.90 ERA in five appearances, striking out 15 in 10 innings of work.
