Howlett, Shugart Help Earn Greenville 2-1 Series-Clinching Win Over Dash

Winston-Salem, N.C. – Brandon Howlett smacked a solo home run to break a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning while starter Chase Shugart hurled 6.0 innings of one run ball for a 2-1 win over Winston-Salem Sunday afternoon at Truist Stadium.

With the win, the Drive (19-17) secured the 4-2 series triumph. Additionally, they are now 17-7 when they hit a home run.

Howlett led Greenville offensively with the only multi-hit effort. Cam Cannon and Kole Cottam were the only other players to get a hit for the Drive, registering just four total for the afternoon. Dom D’Allessandro drove in the other run.

Shugart earned the dub with the 6.0 inning ,one run performance. He allowed seven hits and two walks with two punchouts. Oddanier Mosqueda earned his first save of the year after pitching 2.0 shutout innings with three strikeouts. Yasel Santana got the hold. He worked 1.0 inning and surrendered a walk while fanning one. Santana and Mosqueda didn’t allow a hit over the last three frames.

Trey Jeans took the loss after relenting the home run to Howlett.

The Dash plated the game’s first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Evan Skoug RBI single, taking a 1-0 lead.

However, Greenville responded in the next half inning. Howlett began the frame with a single and advanced to third on a double by Kole Cottam. The next batter, D’Allesaandro, lashed an RBI groundout to first to tie the score at 1-1.

In the top of the seventh inning, Howlett mashed a 2-1 fastball to left-center field for a solo home run. The Drive took a 2-1 lead.

In the ninth inning, the Dash got a runner on second with no outs but Mosqueda worked around the jam to close the door.

After an off-day Monday, the Drive return to Fluor Field Tuesday at 2:05 PM to begin a six-game series against the Hickory Crawdads, an affiliate of the Texas Rangers.
