RiverDogs Blank Drive, 2-0
Charleston, SC - One night after spinning a 2-0 shutout, the Greenville Drive saw themselves on the wrong side of a 2-0 shutout, as the Charleston RiverDogs held the Drive to just four hits in a victory in Friday's series opener.
RiverDogs (25-29, 67-56) starter Daris Vargas set the tone by holding the Drive (28-26, 65-58) to just one hit over six innings with six strikeouts to improve to 10-6 on the season. Taylor Widener followed by punching out seven Greenville hitters over the final three frames to log his third save.
For the Drive, Daniel Gonzalez (3-5) was strong as well, allowing just two unearned runs in five innings, and Austin Glorius and Adam Lau combined to keep the RiverDogs off the board for three innings.
A Drive error in the fifth on Cesar Diaz's groundball proved costly, as Kyle Holder followed with an RBI double to put Charleston ahead 1-0. A wild pitch later in the inning plated the second run.
Mitchell Gunsolus collected two of Greenville's four hits on the night.
Game two of the four-game series begins at 7:05 PM. Left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus is scheduled to take the ball for the Drive, and the RiverDogs will start right-hander Luis Cedeno.
