Coaching Staff Announced for the 2015 Season
FISHKILL, NY- The Hudson Valley Renegades, Short-Season Class-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays are pleased to announce that Tim Parenton will return as Manager for the 2015 Hudson Valley Renegades. Joining Parenton will be returning coach; Manny Castillo, pitching coach; Brian Reith and returning athletic trainer, Brian Newman.
Parenton returns to the Hudson Valley after leading the Renegades to a division championship during the 2014 season. Parenton lead the McNamara Division champs to a 46-30 winning season as they were the first team in the New York-Penn League to reach the 40-win mark. This season will be Parenton's second season in Minor League Baseball and second within the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Parenton, a veteran coach of over 20 years, began his college-coaching career with the Monarchs of Old Dominion University where he spent five seasons (1990-95) before joining the coaching staff of Mississippi State (1996-97). In 1998, Parenton received his first head coaching position with Samford University. During his seven-year tenure (1998-04), Parenton oversaw a $1,000,000 ballpark renovation project, increased instructional camp attendance, and increased the team's graduation rate to over 90 percent with 51 academic all-conference recipients. Parenton went on to join the University of Florida coaching staff (2004-07) following a three-year break from the college-level to return to his alma mater of Jesuit High School (2007-10). A native of New Orleans, Parenton attended Mississippi State earning three varsity letters as a third baseman and shortstop. Parenton also earned four varsity letters as a quarterback on the Bulldog football teams that participated in the Sun Bowl (1980) and the Hall of Fame Bowl (1981) in Birmingham, Ala. Before joining the Tampa Bay Rays organization, Parenton spent four seasons with the University of North Florida (2010-13).
Manny Castillo will also make a return to the Hudson Valley after spending the 2014 season as the Renegades bench coach. Prior to the Renegades, Castillo spent four seasons with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays). Castillo was a member of the Renegades coaching staff in 2009 after spending the 2008 season as manager of the Dominican Summer League (DSL) Rays. Before beginning his coaching profession, Castillo had an 18-year playing career as a switch-hitting infielder, including stints with the Mets (1973-75), Cardinals (1976-79), Royals (1980-81), Mariners (1982-83) and the Blue Jays (1984) organizations. This year will mark Castillo's seventeenth season within the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
New to the Renegades will be former Cincinnati Reds right-handed pitcher, Brian Reith. A native of Fort Wayne Indiana, Reith was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 6th round of the 1996 baseball amateur draft. After spending four seasons within the Yankee organization, Reith was traded in 2000 to the Cincinnati Reds where he made his major league debut in 2001. Reith is a graduate of Concordia (IN) Lutheran High School (1996). This season will mark Reith's first year within the Tampa Bay Rays coaching system.
Brian Newman return's to the Hudson Valley for his second consecutive season. In 2013, Newman spent the season with the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Rays. This will be Newman's sixth season in professional baseball after serving as the clinical coordinator of sports medicine at New Mexico State University (2010-11), athletic trainer at the University of Alabama (2006-10), and a graduate assistant at Emory University (2004-06). Newman spent time within the Milwaukee Brewers (2004) and San Diego Padres (2002) system as the teams conditioning coach.
