Despite Rodriguez's two home runs, Aberdeen wins opener 4-3

Renegades jump out to 3-0 lead, but IronBirds come back to win

Aberdeen, Md. (May 7, 2024) — Jesus Rodriguez crushed two home runs on Tuesday night as the Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds 4-3 at Leidos Field. Rodriguez hit a solo shot to left to lead off the second against Moises Chace, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead.

Aberdeen, Md. (May 7, 2024) — Jesus Rodriguez crushed two home runs on Tuesday night as the Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds 4-3 at Leidos Field.

Rodriguez hit a solo shot to left to lead off the second against Moises Chace, giving the Renegades a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Rodriguez launched a two-run shot to left to push the advantage to 3-0. Rodriguez was 3-for-3 in the game, hitting his third and fourth home runs of the road trip.

While the Renegades built an early lead, Cam Schlittler continued his outstanding start to the season. He tossed 5.0 no-hit innings, tying his career high with seven strikeouts and walking just two batters. His ERA now sits at 1.04 on the season.

The IronBirds found their groove in the bottom of the sixth off Ben Shields, rallying for three runs to tie the game. Minor League rehabber Max Wagner picked up the first hit for Aberdeen with a solo home run to right. The long ball was followed by a Mac Horvath single, who then scored on an RBI triple by Creed Willems. With the score 3-2, Josenberger lined a single into left, bringing home Willems and tying the game.

In the seventh, Aberdeen took a 4-3 lead. Enrique Bradfield led off the frame with a double. He then stole third, and scampered home after a throwing error by catcher Jesus Rodriguez. It was the last of a season-high five errors for the Renegades in the game.

The IronBirds got the final six outs to seal the 4-3 victory in the series opener.

Aberdeen and Hudson Valley will continue their series tomorrow night at 7:05, with the Heritage Financial Credit Union Pregame Show beginning at 6:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network. Baron Stuart (0-1, 4.61) will start for the Renegades, while the IronBirds will throw Juan Nuñez (2-1, 1.77).
