WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY (May 11, 2022) — Tyler Hardman’s pinch-hit two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth powered the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 6-5 win over the Aberdeen IronBirds on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Aberdeen plated two in the top of the first against Hudson Valley starter Matt Sauer. Collin Burns laced an RBI double to left-center and Coby Mayo drove him in with a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

The Renegades struck back in the bottom of the second. Spencer Henson drove in Aldenis Sanchez with an RBI triple to center to pull Hudson Valley within one.

Burns drove in the next three Aberdeen runs to extend the lead to 5-1. Colton Cowser scored when Burns grounded into a fielder’s choice in the third inning, and in the top of the fifth, Burns banged a two-run double.

Sauer fired 4.2 innings, allowing five runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two.

The Renegades crept closer in the bottom of the sixth, when Eduardo Torrealba bounced a two-run single to center against Rickey Ramirez to cut the deficit to 5-3. Aberdeen starter Houston Roth was charged with one of the runs.

In the bottom of the eighth, Hudson Valley stormed back to take the lead. Henson continued his roll with an RBI single to right-center, trimming the deficit to 5-4. With two outs, Hardman came off the bench against Nick Roth (0-1) and launched a go-ahead two-run blast to give the Renegades a 6-5 lead.

Alex Mauricio (2-0) closed it out with two shutout innings, allowing one hit, striking out two and walking one.

Spencer Henson was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs in the victory.

Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with Aberdeen tomorrow night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Will Warren (1-2, 2.57) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the IronBirds tab RHP Justin Armbruester (0-0, 3.10). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
