Wilmington, Del. (May 28, 2023) — Early offense propelled the Hudson Valley Renegades to an 8-4 win over the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Sunday night at Frawley Stadium. With the win, Hudson Valley won the series from Wilmington, its fifth series win in seven six-game series this season.

The Renegades jumped on Minor League rehabber Jackson Tetreault in the top of the first on a two-run single by Antonio Gomez, scoring Spencer Jones and Alexander Vargas. Wilmington answered back with three off Drew Thorpe in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a two-run single by Leandro Emiliani.

Eduardo Torrealba singled and scored on a Vargas single in the top of the second to tie the game at 3-3, but Hudson Valley erupted for five runs in the third to regain the lead.

Gomez led off with a double and scored on an error by shortstop Jordy Barley two batters later. Grant Richardson ripped Tetreault’s (0-2) next pitch over the right field wall for a two-run homer. Two batters after that, Marcos Cabrera crushed a home run to left to end Tetreault’s night. The Renegades scratched across a run against Nick Pogue on a Vargas RBI double to take an 8-3 lead.

The Blue Rocks got a run back on a Trey Lipscomb solo home run in the bottom of the third, but Thorpe (3-1) settled in nicely from there. He tossed 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out seven. It was the fourth time in his last five starts in which he pitched into the sixth inning.

Clay Aguilar, Jack Neely and Danny Watson combined for 3.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close out the victory.

The Renegades pounded out 10 hits in the game, and recorded double-digit hits in every game of the series with the Blue Rocks. In the six games of the series, the Renegades totaled 73 hits.

Hudson Valley enjoys a day off on Monday before welcoming the Aberdeen IronBirds to Heritage Financial Park on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 5:45 on the Renegades Baseball Network.
