INDIANAPOLIS - Today, the International League named Indianapolis Indians broadcaster Howard Kellman this year's recipient of the Spirit of the International League Award. Kellman is currently calling his 43rd season of Tribe baseball, and last season eclipsed 6,000 career broadcasts with the organization.

"Howard has become synonymous with Indians baseball to all our listeners in Indianapolis and throughout central Indiana," said Randy Lewandowski, Indians president and general manager. "His passion, enthusiasm and dedication have shined through every one of the games he's called over four-plus decades."
Kellman joined the Tribe in 1974 and has been the voice of the team every year except for the 1975 and 1980 campaigns. He has called IHSAA football and basketball games on WHMB-TV 40 since 1990 and was honored as Indiana's Sportscaster of the Year in 2002. In 2009, he was inducted to the Indiana Sports Writers & Sportscasters Association Hall of Fame. Six years later, Kellman was inducted into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame before being selected as Ballpark Digest's 2017 co-Broadcaster of the Year. Earlier this year, he was inducted into the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Kellman's resume includes three Triple-A All-Star Games, highlighted by the 2001 contest hosted at Victory Field. He has also worked behind the microphone for the Chicago White Sox (1984) and Cleveland Cavaliers (1988-90) and later contributed as a sideline reporter for Yale football on the YES Television Network (2012). Kellman was also a fill-in sportscaster for the New York Mets in 2014.
The Spirit of the International League Award, created in 2010, is designed to recognize the essential role filled by individuals who are dedicated to helping make sure IL fans have the most enjoyable experience possible. The Indians and the International League will recognize Kellman at a special ceremony between games of a doubleheader on Friday, July 27.
