About Razor Shines Weekend 2024
#3 Retirement Ceremony
Large, lighted letters spelled out "Razor Shines" along the field, setting the stage for the culminating event of the weekend. On the second day of Razor Shines Weekend, the Indianapolis Indians legend became the first player in the organization's 122-year history to have their number retired. During the pregame ceremony, Shines stood amongst his family, friends and former teammates as the crowd heard speeches from Indians Chairman of the Board, Bruce Schumacher, and Shines himself. Following the speeches, Schumacher gifted Shines a ring to commemorate the occasion before the permanent number "3" was unveiled on the outfield wall.
In-Game & Pregame
Shines threw the first pitch prior to each game of the three-day celebratory weekend. On Friday and Sunday, Shines signed autographs and took photos with fans in the Center Field Plaza. Throughout the weekend, a variety of videos containing interviews with Shines, stories behind his championship rings and congratulatory messages from family, friends and teammates played during inning breaks and were each met with applause from the crowd. - Razor Shines Weekend begins Friday, Sept. 13.
- Shines will throw a ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs in the Center Field Plaza before and during the game from the top of the fourth through the end of the sixth inning.
- The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Legends Baseball Card Set giveaway that includes Shines and other former Indians legends.
- Stick around after the final out for postgame fireworks.
- Shines' pregame jersey number retirement ceremony will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14.
- The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Razor Shines Bobblehead giveaway that includes an audio recording of Bush Stadium public address announcer Kurt Hunt's famous introduction of Shines before his at-bats.
- Shines will throw a ceremonial first pitch after the ceremony.
- Stick around after the final out for postgame fireworks.
- Shines will throw a ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs in the Center Field Plaza before and during the home finale from the top of the second through the end of the fourth inning on Sunday, Sept. 15.
- The first 1,000 fans through the gates ages 14 and under will receive a Razor Shines T-shirt giveaway.
