I-CUBS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST OMAHA

The Iowa Cubs (32-39, 62-81) swept a doubleheader with the Omaha Storm Chasers (31-39, 64-80) on Friday evening at Werner Park.

Iowa got on the board in the first inning of game one, with Chas McCormick driving in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice. Austin Wynns hit a solo home run in the second inning to extend the lead. Omaha scored one run in the fourth inning to cut the I-Cubs lead to one run.

Omaha loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth inning. With Iowa clinging to a one-run lead, Tyler Ferguson struck out the first batter he faced to get out of the jam. Ferguson recorded the final three outs of the game in the seventh inning to pick up his third save of the season to preserve the I-Cubs 2-1 victory in game one.

The I-Cubs struck first in game two, scoring two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jordan Nwogu followed by an RBI double by Jackson Cluff. Omaha scored one run with two outs in the fifth inning to cut the I-Cubs lead to one run.

Iowa erupted for eight runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from McCormick, an RBI single from Ben Cowles, and a grand slam from BJ Murray to blow the game open and give the I-Cubs a 10-1 lead. Omaha hit a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning to close the scoring.

Starting pitcher Braxton Garrett picked up his third victory with Iowa, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing just one run and striking out six.
