Brett Lee notches another complete game as Kernels sweep Captains, 4-1
Eastlake, OH - Brett Lee (7-4) notched his second consecutive complete game and Adam Brett Walker homered twice as the Kernels completed a three game sweep of the Lake County Captains, 4-1, in front of 5,557 fans at Classic Park.
Lee gave up one run, a solo home run to Eric Haase in the fifth inning, and scattered six hits while striking out 10 and walking just one. His last start on July 12 against Dayton was a complete game win, where he allowed just five hits and struck out three while walking one.
Walker homered in consecutive at-bats in the sixth and seventh inning to raise his MWL leading home run total to 20 on the season, while moving into a tie for the league lead with 83 RBI.
Jonathan Murphy had another good game for the Kernels, going 2-5 and Max Kepler was 3-4 as the Kernels had 10 hits in the game. Niko Goodrum went 1-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. As a team, the Kernels have hit 83 home runs on the season and driven in 524 runs.
Lake County starter Jake Sisco (4-7) took the loss, giving up two runs on six hits over 5 IP. Dorssys Paulino went 2-4 for the Captains with a double.
The Kernels now head to Fort Wayne and a three game series with the Tincaps, the Midwest League affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Tim Atherton (5-2, 2.45) gets the start for the Kernels against RHP Bryan Rodriguez (1-4, 3.86) for Fort Wayne. Game time is set for 5:05 pm, CDT.
The current road trip continues through Monday, July 22nd and the Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to open a six-game home stand against Peoria and Clinton starting Wednesday, July 24th.
