ROME, GA - Carlos Paraguate broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI double to give Rome a 1-0 win over the BlueClaws on Wednesday at State Mutual Stadium. 
Lakewood (6-14) was looking for a three-game sweep of the Braves (7-12) but ended up taking two of three in the series. 
James McArthur (0-1) took the loss for the BlueClaws while Claudio Custodio (2-0) earned the win with two perfect innings of relief. Kurt Hoekstra threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his second save. 
Lakewood out-hit Rome 9-4 in the game, but left six men in scoring position in the loss. 
BlueClaws starter Kevin Gowdy threw five scoreless innings, striking out three. It was his longest outing in his four starts this year. The right-hander pitched around two-on/one out in the second and around a one-out double in the fifth. 
Rome starter Trey Riley threw six scoreless innings, striking out two and walking one while scattering seven hits. 
Abrahan Gutierrez had two hits for Lakewood and has now hit safely in all nine games in which he has played. 
The BlueClaws head to Hickory for a four-game weekend series with the Crawdads starting on Thursday night. RHP Colton Eastman (0-2) will start the series opener for the BlueClaws.
