LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jake Holmes scored from third base on a passed ball in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the BlueClaws a 3-2 win over Kannapolis on Saturday at FirstEnergy Park.
Holmes, who began the inning on second base, moved to third as Lakewood loaded the bases. Luis Garcia struck out and Holmes scored on the passed ball with Luke Miller batting. Jason Bilous (2-2) was charged with the loss though the run was unearned.
Ismael Cabrera (1-0), added to the roster earlier in the game, stranded the go-ahead run at third base in the top of the 10th. He earned the win.
The BlueClaws (16-32) had dropped eight of nine on their road trip that ended on Friday night. Kannapolis (20-28) is now 1-4 on their eight game road trip.
The BlueClaws took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Luke Miller.
Meanwhile, BlueClaws starter Kyle Glogoski dominated Kannapolis over five scoreless innings. The right-hander from New Zealand gave up two hits and fanned 12. He retired the first 12 batters he faced on the day.
Jonathan Guzman singled home a run in the bottom of the seventh off JB Olson to put the BlueClaws ahead 2-0. However, Ian Dawkins of Kannapolis tied the game in the eighth with a two-run home run off Tyler McKay.
Miller had two hits for the BlueClaws while Garcia drew two walks. The teams continue their series on Sunday at 1:05 pm. RHP Dominic Pipkin (2-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Davis Martin (3-4).
