Hoppers Plate Two In Ninth, Hold Up Claws 3-2

Greensboro has won 10 of 11 against the BlueClaws this year

Greensboro started their series in Lakewood with a 3-2 win.

LAKEWOOD,NJ - Greensboro scored twice in the ninth with Pat Dorrian's home run breaking a 1-1 tie as Greensboro topped the BlueClaws 3-2 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park. 

Dorrian's home run, his fifth of the year, came off Mark Potter (0-2). Greensboro added a run on an RBI single from Justin Harrer to go up 3-1. Lakewood got a run back in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single from Carlos De La Cruz but Jack Conley grounded out to first base to end the game. 

Yerry De Los Santos (2-0) earned the win after he threw a scoreless eighth inning. 

Greensboro (39-20) has now won 10 of 11 meetings with the BlueClaws (21-38) so far this season. 

The BlueClaws got a run in the first inning on a two-out RBI single off of Colin Selby. The run was unearned after Rafael Marchan had reached on an error.

Neither team scored until the seventh inning when Greensboro tied the score on an RBI single by Grant Koch.

Lakewood had chances throughout the middle innings. They left 12 men on base, seven in scoring position, between the third and seventh innings including leaving the bases loaded twice.

Selby came out after 4.1 innings having walked four and struck out three. He allowed only the one unearned run from the first inning.

BlueClaws starter Dominic Pipkin threw three scoreless innings and was followed by Luis Carrasco, who threw two scoreless innings. Jhordany Mezquita came on in the sixth and gave up one run over three innings while striking out two.

De La Cruz had three hits for Lakewood after he had two on Wednesday. 

The teams will play a double-header on Friday night, making up a game rained out in May. First pitch is at 5:35 pm and gates open at 5:00 pm.
