LAKEWOOD, NJ - Ryan Ripken broke a 1-1 tie with a seventh inning RBI single as Delmarva topped the BlueClaws 5-1 on Friday night at FirstEnergy Park.
The win gives the Shorebirds (8-1) eight wins in their first nine games while the BlueClaws fall to 4-5. The clubs have split the first two games in their four-game series.
Ryan Ripken's two-out RBI single put Delmarva up 2-1 and they added a run on an RBI single from Frank Crinella off BlueClaws reliever Julian Garcia (0-1).
Zach Jarrett hit his second home run of the season in the ninth off Zach Warren to push the lead to 5-1. Delmarva opened the scoring in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Trevor Craport before off Spencer Howard, the lone run allowed by the BlueClaws starter.
Howard, a 2nd round pick last year, gave up one run over five innings with six strikeouts without allowing a walk.
Lakewood tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Nick Maton, but the BlueClaws largely struggled against Shorebirds starter Matthias Dietz (2-0).
The right-hander threw six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and striking out seven to win his second game in as many starts this year.
Maton had two hits for the BlueClaws while Craport, Seamus Curran, and TJ Nicting had two hits for Delmarva.
The BlueClaws and Shorebirds continue their series on Saturday at 4:05 pm. LHP Damon Jones (0-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RPH Brenan Hanifee (1-0).
