KANNAPOLIS, NC - McCarthy Tatum had a home run and five RBIs and Carlos De La Cruz homered for the BlueClaws in a 9-6 win over Kannapolis on Friday at Intimidators Stadium.
The BlueClaws (10-17/39-58) have won three of five on their road trip and have split the first two in this series and six meetings on the year from Kannapolis (14-15/42-55).
A five-run second inning gave the BlueClaws a big early lead. Jonathan Guzman singled to right on an 0-2 pitch to put the BlueClaws up 1-0. McCarhty Tatum followed with a two-run double and Carlos De La Cruz added a two-run single.
Kannapolis scored three times off Francisco Morales in the bottom of the third to get back in the game, including an RBI double from Johan Cruz.
The BlueClaws would add runs on two home runs, starting with McCarthy Tatum's second professional home run. His fifth inning blast came off starter Kevin Folman (0-2). Carlos De La Cruz then took reliever Devon Perez deep in the sixth. De La Cruz has five on the year, and four have come since last Friday.
Tatum added a two-run single in the ninth for his fourth and fifth RBIs of the game. He joins Cole Stobbe (May 30th) as BlueClaws with five-RBI games this season.
Lakewood starter Francisco Morales gave up three runs, two earned, over three innings of work. Gilmael Troya (3-0) followed and threw two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win.
Victor Santos gave up three runs in 3.2 innings in relief while Albertus Barber got the last out in his BlueClaws debut.
Abrahan Gutierrez walked three times for Lakewood, matching a team-season high set by Seth Lancaster on June 29th.
Intimidators starter Kevin Folman (0-2) gave up six runs in five innings and took the loss. The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 7:05. LHP Ethan Lindow (5-2) starts for Lakewood opposite LHP Sam Long (4-3).
