Brandon Finnegan makes rehab start as Bats lose, 7-1

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bats dropped the series opener at Louisville Slugger Field to the Columbus Clippers on Monday night by a 7-1 score. Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan made a rehab start for Louisville, his first appearance of the 2018 season.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Bats dropped the series opener at Louisville Slugger Field to the Columbus Clippers on Monday night by a 7-1 score. Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan made a rehab start for Louisville, his first appearance of the 2018 season.

Starting pitcher Brandon Finnegan (0-1, 5.40) went 5.0 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and one home run. The southpaw walked five and struck out two, tossing 98 pitches and 53 strikes. The left-hander had trouble with his command at certain points of his outing, but limited the damage by inducing a pair of groundout double plays.
Left-hander Adam Wilk (1-0, 0.00) got the win for Columbus in his first start of the season, tossing 5.2 innings and surrendering one run that was unearned on four hits, walking one and striking out five. Bats left fielder Tyler Goeddel reached base on a Yandy Díaz error in the bottom of the first, with Goeddel scoring on a Rosell Herrera RBI single. Herrera currently leads Louisville with four RBI, with Tony Cruz's two coming in second place on the club.
Finnegan's five walks on Monday night were the most walks he has ever had in 35 career minor league games (23 career starts).
The Bats (1-3) and Clippers (2-2) are back at it tomorrow night, with first pitch set for 6:30 PM at Louisville Slugger Field. Left-hander Justin Nicolino is set to start for Louisville, and right-hander Alexi Ogando for Columbus, both expecting to make their season debuts.
