LOUISVILLE, KY – P.J. Higgins went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead the Iowa Cubs to a 4-2 win over the Louisville Bats Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

[BOX SCORE]

Higgens doubled home a run in the second inning, singled in the fourth, doubled in a second run in the sixth and plated a final run with a single to center in the eighth. The four-hit effort tied an Iowa Cubs season-high for any batter on the year.

Louisville accomplished a feat teams have yet to match thus far in 2022 – scoring an earned run against Cubs starter Matt Swarmer. The right-hander entered the contest with a perfect 0.00 ERA through three games and 11.2 innings this season. The Bats broke through with a run-scoring single from Ronnie Dawson in the third and RBI groundout from Lorenzo Cedrola in the fifth.

Dawson entered the contest with a .415 OBP over his last nine games and added to the solid on-base clip with a pair of knocks in the defeat.

After Cedrola tied the game 2-2 in the fifth, Iowa plated what stood as the game-winner on Higgens’ double in the top of the sixth.

With the run, Swarmer earned the win, finishing with 5.0 innings of two-run ball.

Louisville threatened in the eighth, but its best chance to take the lead fizzled when Allen Cordoba’s deep fly to left with two men on came down a few feet shy of a home run.
