Hens Get Four Late, Defeat Bats 5-4
Louisville got the majority of their offense in the top of the fourth. Adam Rosales continued his hot hitting by leading the inning off with a double to left field. Kevin Barker and Jonny Gomes followed with doubles of their own, scoring Rosales and Barker. Gomes then scored on a Drew Stubbs single.
A Chris Valaika solo shot to left field gave the Bats a 4-1 lead through five. It was his third home run of the season.
The Louisville Bats' bullpen has been stellar all season long, but they couldn't hold the lead.
The score remained at 4-1 until the eighth. The Hens got one off of Carlos Fisher in the eighth and then Josh Roenicke came in to strike out two of the three batters he faced, to get out of the inning with the 4-2 lead.
Roenicke stayed in the game to pitch the ninth, but couldn't hold it. With two outs and runners on second and third, Clevlen delivered with a single past shortstop Valaika, scoring Will Rhymes and Jason Tyner, to tie the game.
Toledo then won it in the tenth off of Bats' lefty Adam Pettyjohn. Pettyjohn (0-2, 4.66), who won 15 games a year ago for the Bats, allowed two hits and the earned run in one-third of an inning.
Freddy Dolsi (1-0, 0.00) picked up the win, by pitching a scoreless tenth inning.
The Bats and Hens square off again tonight at 7 p.m., in game three of the four-game set. LHP Sam Lecure (0-1, 5.73) get the start for the Bats and will be opposed by RHP Chris Lambert (1-1, 4.41). In Lambert's lone appearance against Louisville this season he allowed only one hit and zero runs in eight innings, to pick up the win.
