MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds continued a six-game series against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with a 5-3 loss on Friday night at AutoZone Park.

Right fielder Joshua Báez drilled a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, his 33rd longball of the season. The blast moves the right-handed slugger into a fourth-place tie with Luken Baker’s 2023 season on the single-season home run list in Memphis Redbirds history. 38 games remain on the Memphis schedule with Báez three home runs shy of tying the single-season home run record.

Starting pitcher Quinn Mathews (5-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits, walked six and struck out four in 3.0 innings pitched. All four runs allowed by the left-handed pitcher in his first start at Triple-A following his MLB debut scored on a first-inning grand slam.

Originally scheduled starter Pete Hansen worked 4.0 innings out of the bullpen and allowed one unearned run on three hits. Right-handed pitcher Cade Winquest and left-handed pitcher Brycen Mautz combined to cover 3.0 innings scoreless in relief.

The Memphis Redbirds return to AutoZone Park on Saturday, August 8 to continue a six-game homestand against the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A, Milwaukee Brewers) with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CDT.
