MEMPHIS, Tennessee -Adolis García continued his torrid stretch for the first-place Memphis Redbirds (68-41), hitting two home runs and extending his hitting streak to 11 games, but the Redbirds lost the series opener to the Sacramento River Cats (Giants), 6-3, Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.
Garcia went deep in the third inning, a two-run shot, and eighth inning, a solo blast, for his 20th and 21st home runs of the season. He now has seven home runs in his last six games and nine since July 22. On his 11-game hitting streak since July 20, Garcia is hitting .431 (22-51) with 16 runs scored, nine home runs, and 20 RBI.
Four other Redbirds had hits in the game, with Randy Arozarena adding a double.
Chris Ellis started and gave up six runs on nine hits in 5.0 innings. Three relievers tossed the final 4.0 innings in scoreless fashion for Memphis, with Giovanny Gallegos pitching the sixth inning in his debut in the Cardinals organization. He allowed two inherited runs to score.
Dominic Leone pitched the seventh inning on Major League injury rehab, and he struck out two, and Conner Greene worked 2.0 perfect innings to finish the game.
Memphis had just four chances with runners in scoring position and did not convert.
