Cubs rack up another top farm system ranking
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (FEBRUARY 6, 2015) - Baseball America (BA) released their annual Prospect Handbook on Friday and named the Chicago Cubs, the parent club of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, to the top spot in their Organizational Rankings. This comes on the heels of ESPN's Keith Law placing the Cubs first last month and The Sporting News doing so as well on Thursday.
The Cubs moved up three spots from the number four spot a season ago. Five Cubs prospects made the Top 50 lists of various BA writers in the handbook as well: Kris Bryant (ranked 1, 1, 2, and 3 in four different lists), Addison Russell (3, 3, 4, and 4), Jorge Soler (4, 10, 13, and 15), Kyle Schwarber (15, 21, 23, and 28), and C.J. Edwards (15, 35, 40, and 45).
Last season, the Pittsburgh Pirates were tops in the Organizational Rankings according to BA. The publication lists former Pelicans parent clubs the Texas Rangers 11th and the Atlanta Braves 29th out of the 30 MLB clubs.
The Cubs have yet to announce the roster of players who will play in Myrtle Beach to open the 2015 season, an announcement that will not come until after Spring Training concludes.
The Baseball America handbook is available for order now on their website.
The Pelicans return to TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark on April 9 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, as they begin their defense of their Southern Division Championship Title. The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
