Texas Rangers to Hold Open Tryout at The Dell Diamond

July 5, 2011

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers will conduct an open tryout camp for prospective professional baseball players Wednesday, July 20, at The Dell Diamond, the parent club of the Round Rock Express announced. Non-drafted, non-contracted individuals between the ages of 16 and 25 are eligible to participate. The one-day tryout begins at 7 a.m. and will conclude by 3 p.m.

Rangers scouting department personnel will be on-hand holding the event. Participants will be evaluated based upon Major League standards. Overall skills tests such as 60-yard dash, agility, hitting ability and arm strength from shortstop, outfield, catcher and pitcher positions will be administered. Participants are responsible for their own equipment and should come dressed in baseball attire. Baseballs will be furnished.

"This is a bona fide opportunity for a diamond in the rough to get their chance to get noticed for a shot at professional baseball," said Express General Manager George King. "Every player in attendance will have a chance to show Baseball what he can do."

All interested individuals are encouraged to pre-register at www.RoundRockExpress.com. Late registration will be held at the entry gate at Dell Diamond the morning of the event. American Legion players MUST provide a letter from their coach or post commander granting permission to attend the tryout camp. All entrants must sign an injury waiver to participate. Any travel expenses incurred will be the responsibility of the individual player.

Express right-handed pitcher Mark Hamburger broke into professional baseball by way of a Minnesota Twins open tryout at the Metrodome in 2007. Hamburger, who was a 2008 Appalachian League Postseason All-Star, joined the Rangers organization as part of the trade that sent Eddie Guardado to Minnesota late in the 2008 season.
