Game Summary: A six-run bottom of the eighth inning broke a tie and sent the Las Vegas Aviators to an 11-5 win over the Oklahoma City Comets Wednesday afternoon at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Comets (3-2) scored three runs in the first inning, with RBI singles by Ryan Ward and Noah Miller, plus a Las Vegas error. Las Vegas (4-1) scored twice in both the second and third innings to jump in front, 4-3. Oklahoma City got back into the run column in the fifth inning, tying the game on a bases-loaded walk by Ward and taking a 5-4 lead via a Miller sacrifice fly. Las Vegas tied the game on a solo shot from Henry Bolte in the bottom of the fifth. The game remained tied into the eighth inning when the Aviators erupted for six runs. The rally was set up by a Comets error, and Las Vegas hit a pair of two-run homers throughout the frame.

Of Note:

-Oklahoma City’s three-game winning streak came to an end with the loss. The six-game series between the Comets and Aviators is now tied at one game apiece.

-Reigning Pacific Coast League MVP Ryan Ward went 2-for-4 with two RBI, collecting his first multi-hit and multi-RBI game of the season. Ward snapped an 0-for-14 stretch, recording his first hit since his first at-bat of the season.

-James Tibbs III was 2-for-4 and now has at least one hit in each of the first five games of the season. He has also tallied at least two hits in four straight contests, going 11-for-18 with eight extra-base hits and nine RBI.

-Ryan Fitzgerald also collected a fourth straight multi-hit game, going 3-for-5. During the four-game stretch, Fitzgerald is 12-for-19 with 12 RBI. Fitzgerald has at least three hits in three of the four games.

-The Comets offense recorded 11 hits, reaching double figures in a fourth straight came. Oklahoma City has compiled 58 hits in that span. Four players in the lineup finished with multi-hit performances…However, for the second time in five games to begin the season, the Comets did not pick up an extra-base hit — something that happened just three times in 150 games last season.
