The Oklahoma City Dodgers will host a registration event for the new OKC Dodgers Rookie League Saturday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Parents and guardians interested in signing up their children for the youth baseball league, formed in partnership with Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation, can do so in person at the ballpark from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Fun, inflatable games, a face painter and outdoor activities for the whole family will be on site during the registration event. An OKC Dodgers High School Baseball Series game is also scheduled to start at noon at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Concessions will be available for purchase.
The OKC Dodgers announced last month a partnership with Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation to help bolster youth baseball participation in the community and foster an environment that emphasizes leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation was forced to cancel its baseball league last year due to low participation. The OKC Dodgers stepped in to provide Dodgers-branded jerseys and hats for all players, in addition to other resources, to help reduce participation costs and make the game more accessible.
The OKC Dodgers Rookie League will consist of four baseball divisions to accommodate boys and girls in multiple skill levels and age groups. A goal of six to eight teams will compete in each division: 4U T-Ball, 6U T-Ball, 8U Coach Pitch and 10U Kid Pitch.
The cost to participate is $55 per child and is necessary for operation expenses, such as umpires and field maintenance. Cash or credit card payments will be accepted on site during Saturday's registration event at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Individuals interested in registering in person Saturday can park in the Joe Carter Lot, located at the northeast corner of Joe Carter Avenue and Reno Avenue. Guests can then enter the ballpark through the Warren Spahn Gate, located just west of Joe Carter Avenue at the southeast corner of Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
OKC Dodgers Rookie League practices will be held once per week starting the week of March 26. Game play starts April 7 and runs through May 26. The season schedule consists of eight games played at either Wheeler Park (1120 S. Western Ave.) or Stars and Stripes Park (3701 Lake Hefner Dr.).
