(Reading, PA) - Despite another impressive start from Connor Seabold , the Reading Fightin Phils eight-game winning streak ended with Tuesday night's 5-3 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats. Center fielder Omar Carrizales had a huge night, finishing 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, including the decisive blow with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh. With the win, Hartford snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 5-4 in the season series.
The Fightin Phils struck first in the bottom of the second against Rockies 40-man member Jesus Tinoco . Deivi Grullon led off with a single and Jan Hernandez followed with a walk, allowing Drew Stankiewicz to slice a run-scoring single down the left field line for a 1-0 lead. Despite putting the first two batters on in their first three innings, the Fightins could only manage just the one run off Tinoco (7-10) over five innings. He'd end his night by retiring the last eight batters he faced with four strikeouts.
In the top of the third, second baseman Scott Burcham opened the inning with a single and later scored on a Carrizales double to dead center field. Seabold had nine strikeouts over five but put Carrizales on again with a leadoff single in the sixth. Two batters later, Sam Hilliard gave the visitors the lead with a double. Another single from Brian Mundell brought up Mylz Jones , who made it 3-1 with his 17th double. Seabold (1-3) escaped a bases-loaded, one out jam with his tenth strikeout, ending his night on his 100th pitch when Chris Rabago popped out to Grullon behind the plate.
Carrizales blasted his third home run two batters into the seventh after pinch-hitter Nelson Molina led off with a single. Down 5-1, the Fightins chipped away in the bottom of the eighth when Darick Hall and Grullon hit back-to-back home runs to cut the deficit to 5-3. Hall's third hit and Grullon's second were huge, with the catcher's home run being his third in as many games and his 20th of the season. Facing Reid Humphreys in the bottom of the ninth, Austin Listi led off with a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but couldn't get a ball off the infield as they fell 5-3 to drop game one.
