D-backs Add Gavin Cecchini, Assigned to Reno
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed INF Gavin Cecchini to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Reno. Here is what you need to know about the new addition:
UTL 6'2" 200 R/R Gavin Cecchini Age: 26
Gavin Cecchini was the 12th overall pick of the 2012 MLB draft by the New York Mets out of Alfred M. Barbe HS in Lake Charles, LA. He spent four seasons in the Mets' system before making his Major League debut in 2016. Cecchini received seven plate appearances and had two hits, both doubles that year.
He received more playing time in 2017, playing in 32 games with the Mets. He hit .208 with two doubles and launched his first career Major League home run on June 19 against Clayton Kershaw.
Cecchini hasn't played in the majors since 2017 and has spent most of his time in Triple-A and Double-A. In 30 games with the Las Vegas 51s in 2018, Cecchini hit .294 with two home runs and 11 doubles.
He played across three levels in 2019, most of it in Double-A with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Cecchini hit .245 with three home runs and 21 RBIs.
On defense, Cecchini plays all over the infield. His versatility is a plus for any team.
