ROME, GA - For the first time since 2005, the Rome Braves have tossed a combined no-hitter. It is the first no-hitter of any kind for the Braves since Luis DeAvila no-hit the Greenville Drive on July 2nd, 2022. Daniel Martinez and Luis Vargas combined to no-hit the Hickory Crawdads

ROME, GA - For the first time since 2005, the Rome Braves have tossed a combined no-hitter. It is the first no-hitter of any kind for the Braves since Luis DeAvila no-hit the Greenville Drive on July 2nd, 2022.

Daniel Martinez and Luis Vargas combined to no-hit the Hickory Crawdads on Wednesday night over nine innings. Martinez, who has been dominant all season, got the starting nod on Wednesday night.

Martinez would go four and two thirds of an inning while striking out eight batters. The only trouble that Martinez would run into would be in the game's opening frame, as Hickory batters would issue two walks. Once Martinez escaped the top of the first, he would cruise to the fifth inning where Luis Vargas would take over.

Vargas would hurl four and a third of an inning, and record all of his outs on balls in play.

The no-hitter comes eighteen years to the date after the last combined no-hitter for the Rome Braves. On June 7th, 2005, James Parr and Angelo Burrows combined to no-hit the Savannah Sand Gnats over nine innings.

The offensive support for the Braves' hurlers tonight all came from Geraldo Quintero, who got the starting nod in left field for just the third time this season. Quintero would drive in runs in both the sixth and eighth innings, giving the Braves three runs on the night.

The 3-0 victory is Rome's twenty-fifth of the season, and puts them just four games out of first place heading into Thursday.

The Braves and Crawdads will continue the series on Thursday night with a 7:00pm first pitch.
