ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (66-72) bid farewell to the 2017 season with a 6-1 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (72-69) on Monday afternoon at Dell Diamond. The victory gave the Express a 3-1 series win over OKC.
E-Train RHP Adrian Sampson (1-0, 0.90) dazzled in the win, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out three in five innings of work. The righty landed 44 of his 47 total pitches in the strikezone. Dodgers LHP Justin Marks (4-3, 5.25) took the loss after giving up five runs, only four of which were earned, on seven hits in five innings.
Round Rock jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. SS Jurickson Profar reached via a fielding error by Marks, then LF Willie Calhoun responded with a single. In the next at-bat, 2B Ryan Rua doubled home a pair of runs to put the E-Train on the board. 1B Ronald Guzmán made it 3-0 with an RBI single in the next at-bat.
The Dodgers scored their lone run in the second inning. 3B Max Muncy , SS Drew Maggi and 1B Edwin Ríos teamed up for three straight one-out singles, the latest of which scored a run.
The Express tacked on two more runs in the third. Calhoun opened the inning with a single, then Guzman worked a walk. 3B Brett Hayes rocketed a two-run double to left field, sending both runners racing home to pad the lead to 5-1.
Round Rock tacked on one last run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hayes and RF Preston Beck opened the frame with back-to-back singles before DH Xavier Paul reached via a Rios fielding error. C Kevin Torres grounded into a double play that scored a run to push the final score to 6-1.
The Round Rock Express open the 2018 season on Thursday, April 5 against the Memphis Redbirds at Dell Diamond. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
