Carilion Clinic Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark is the picturesque home of the Salem Red Sox, the Single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, competing in the Carolina League.

The ballpark was constructed in 1995 at a cost of approximately $10.1 million to replace the aging Municipal Stadium. The initial name was Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium, chosen to honor Salem's veterans. It has gone through a few name changes due to sponsorship, including Lewis-Gale Field and Haley Toyota Field, before becoming Carilion Clinic Field in 2021.

The stadium has hosted various baseball organizations since its opening, starting with the Salem Avalanche (a Colorado Rockies affiliate) and most recently the Salem Red Sox (affiliated with the Boston Red Sox since 2009). Beyond Minor League Baseball, the venue has hosted the ACC Baseball Tournament (2003-2004) and the NCAA Division III National Baseball Championships (1996-1999). With no outfield seating, the views of the distant Blue Ridge Mountains are completely unobstructed, creating one of the most scenic spots in MiLB. Fans can enjoy frequent promotions, including post-game fireworks on many Friday nights throughout the season! Be sure to check out the unique Kid Zone on the third-base side, which includes a to-scale wiffle ball replica of Fenway Park, complete with its own "Green Monster."

• Concessions: The ballpark offers a variety of food and beverage options at full-service and specialty stands. Local beer favorites are often available.

• Cashless Policy: Carilion Clinic Field operates as a cashless ballpark. All concessions, ticket, and merchandise purchases require a credit card or other cashless payment.

• Autographs: Fans can typically seek autographs from the time the gates open until about 15 minutes before the game starts, and again at the conclusion of the game (at the players' discretion). Players cannot sign during the game.

The Mountain View (The "Money" Shot)

• The Best Spot: The third base side (Sections 113-117 and 213-217, approximately) offers the most spectacular view.
• Why: When sitting here, you look out over the outfield fence, where the Blue Ridge Mountains frame the action. This is the stadium's signature view, especially as the sun sets.

The Shady Side (for hot days)

• The Best Spot: The first base side (Sections 101-105 and 201-205, approximately).
• Why: For day games or hot summer evenings, the first base side typically falls into the shade earliest as the sun moves toward the third base side and eventually behind the main stands. Fans often recommend this side for afternoon comfort.

Dugout & Bullpen Access

• Home Dugout: The Red Sox dugout is on the third base side.
• Visitor Dugout: The visiting team's dugout is on the first base side.
• Bullpens: The bullpens are located down the left and right field foul lines, near the group picnic areas. Sitting near the foul pole on the respective side gives you an up-close look at the pitchers warming up.

MLB's Ballpark Guide to Salem Memorial Ballpark

Welcome to Salem's Carilion Clinic Field at Salem Memorial Ballpark, where the mountain views are panoramic and the region's baseball roots can be traced all the way back to the 1880s. While Salem's parent club is nearly 700 miles away, there are plenty of Red Sox fans in the area to make up for it.

The ballpark was built in 1993 when the ownership of the then-Salem Buccaneers planned to sell the franchise because the existing Municipal Stadium wasn't up to franchise standards. The park name was chosen to honor Salem's veterans, while the current naming rights belong to local healthcare organization Carilion Clinic. The Roanoke College baseball team (Division III) often uses the stadium as a second home field.

While the ballpark does not pay tribute to the famed Green Monster -- mainly to show off the mountain views -- there is a nearby stadium that does. Behind the stadium on the third-base side is a kids' dream -- a Wiffle ball field that mimics Fenway Park, appropriately dubbed "Mini-Fenway," complete with a mini Green Monster in left. Also around the corner from Mini Fenway is the Kids' Zone, which features several inflatable rides.

Take the Franklin Road exit towards Salem and Tanglewood Mall.
Follow 419 past Brambleton Avenue and Apperson Drive (about 8 miles).
Take a left at Boulevard (Wilco on the corner).
Follow Boulevard 1/4 mile to ballpark on right.
Stadium is next to Salem Civic Center & Football Stadium.

From I-81:

Take Salem exit 141, Route 419 towards Salem.
Follow 419 through four traffic lights (passing Lakeside Shopping Plaza on right).
Bear to the right on to Texas Street (Alt. 460/11).
Follow about 1/4 of a mile to ballpark on the left (next to football stadium and Salem Civic Center).
