MOOSIC, Pa. (May 13, 2021) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders notched their first come-from-behind victory of the season on Thursday night at PNC Field, defeating the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5-2.

The IronPigs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second against Nick Green when a throwing error allowed a run to score. Green allowed another run in the fourth, but was solid in 3.2 innings in his second start of the season with the RailRiders, yielding two runs (one earned) on four hits, while striking out three and walking four.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre got on the board in the bottom of the third when Armando Alvarez doubled and scored on an error when Greg Allen hit a fly ball to right field that was dropped by Ryan Cordell.

After the IronPigs took the lead back in the top of the fourth, Robinson Chirinos hit a two-run home run in the bottom half of the frame to put the RailRiders on top 3-2. The opposite-field blast was Chirinos’ second homer of the season.

In the bottom of the fifth SWB extended its lead to 5-2 courtesy of a two-run single by Ryan LaMarre off Kyle Dohy, scoring Armando Alvarez and Allen.

The RailRiders bullpen was terrific in support of Green, with Reggie McClain, Addison Russ, Brooks Kriske and Luis Garcia combining for 5.1 scoreless innings. McClain (2-0) got the win, while Garcia racked up his team-leading second save of the season. The staff combined to strike out 10 Lehigh Valley batters, and has recorded 92 strikeouts through its first 76.0 innings pitched this season.

Offensively the club was paced by Chirinos’ two hits, while Andrew Velazquez made a pair of run-saving defensive plays at shortstop. Chris Gittens and Derek Dietrich both extended their respective on-base streaks to start the season to eight games.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre continues its six-game series with Lehigh Valley on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. at PNC Field. RHP Brian Keller (0-0, 3.38 ERA) takes the mound for the RailRiders, while the IronPigs call on LHP Cristopher Sanchez (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
